BJP govt will only spell disaster : Chidambaram

CHIDAMBARAMAgencies, Puducherry
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram  has said the formation of a BJP government at the centre will  only cause disaster to the country.

Addressing a public meeting here last night in support of  the Congress candidate and Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy, Mr Chidambaram said this election it is a direct fight between the Congress and BJP. The claim of a multi-cornered contest is not true. The Congress alone can provide a stable government in the country. So far, the Congress governments at  the Centre have neither fallen nor toppled. Where as the BJP  could never complete it’s term.

If the Congress is not able to form a government at the  Centre this time, a disaster awaits the country and there will  not be  any security to Dalits, minority and Christians in the country, he said. The unity of the country will be severely  affected. Hence, to ensure that all sections of the society live in peace, people should vote Congress to power.

Mr Chidambaram, who ridiculed that two political parties  were using the portrait of Narendra Modi for election campaign in the Union Territory, also took a dig at Chief Minister  N Rangasamy.

He said Rangasamy was chosen, developed and nurtured by the Congress and given the posts of MLA, Minister and Chief Minister.
No one could blame the formation of a separate political  party after quitting the parent party due to some inner party differences.

Those who had quit the party rejoined it and were admitted into the party. Those who quit the party could be forgiven, but Mr Rangasamy who quit the party, formed a new  party and joined hands with the BJP could not be forgiven since it is ‘cheating’, he said.
