BJP Governments

After the general elections to the Vidhan Sabhas of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh the formation of the new governments are taking its recourse. The Bharatiya Janata Party although retained the power in Gujarat but it has lost political prestige.

It was having 115 members in the last Vidhan Sabha and during the election campaign it claimed that it would win 150 seats. But its number camedown by 16 seats and it could win only 99 seats in the 182 member Vidhan Sabha.

It has returned to power with reduced majority. The minimum number for majority is 92 and BJP is comfortable with 99 number. Mr Vijay Rupani will continue as Chief Minister in the new Vidhan Sabha also. In the last term he was inducted in mid term by the party by removing Mrs Anandi Ben as Chief Minister.

Both of them faced the Patidar Reservation agitation that is similar to Jat reservation agitation of Rajasthan and Hariyana. Such sectarian agitation throw up caste leaders within a very short time. Mr Hardik Patel emerged such Patidar caste leader in Gujarat.

The BJP has indicted the Patidar Leader Mr. Nitin Patel as Deputy Chief Minister to neutralise Patidar agitation. The new ministry will take oath on Dec. 26. The Congress continue to be in the opposition.

It could not oust BJP from power but by winning 16 more seat it has added to its prestige and glory in the home state to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. In the past Vidhan Sabha it had 61 member and in the new Vidhan Sabha is up by 77.

The new BJP Government has to face a more powerful opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Patidar agitation of Mr Hardik Patel. In Himachal Pradesh the BJP ousted Congress from the power. Since 1965 in every election the government is changing turn buy turn between BJP and Congress.

This time it was turn of BJP to win and come to power. In the 68 member Sabha the BJP winning 18 seats more than in the last Vidhan Sabha now in the new Vidhan Sabha it is 44 and the Congress tally is reduced by 15 seats and now it is 21 only. During the election the BJP named Mr Prem Kumar Dhunal as would be Chief Minister.

He had been chief minister in earlier BJP Government also. It is going round in the political circle that section of party members opposed to Mr Dhunal sabotaged his election and he was defeated. Now after with different political pulls the BJP announced the name of Mr Jairam Thakur as new Chief Minister of Himachal.

He will take oath on December 27. It is reported to assuge the hurt feeling of Mr Dhumal he will be indicted in Rajya Sabha and to central cabinet of Mr. Modi. The another chief minister of Himachal Mr Santa Kumar is likely to be appointed governor of same state.
