Agencies, Gwalior

Madhya Pradesh Home and Transport Minister Bhoopendra Singh on Wednesday said that a legislation would be brought in the Assembly soon that would provide for capital punishment to an accused – who is involved in raping children below 10 years of age.

Mr Singh made the statement while talking to media after the passing-out parade at the Border Security Force (BSF) Academy in Tekanpur here. He said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has already drafted the proposal for the bill.

Mr Singh said that the state regime has set up fast-track courts for early resolution of rape cases. In Bhopal, an accused was handed down punishment within three months. Besides, police have managed to arrest the accused in recent incidents.

Directives have been issued for registering a zero FIR in rape cases wherein the crime is not within the limits of the police station concerned.
