Barkha switches over to BJP, says Congress has lost contact with people

Agencies, New Delhi

Expelled Congress leader Barkha Shukla Singh, who switched over to the BJP today alleged that the grand old party’s leadership has totally lost contact with the people and for long she was feeling suffocated in the party (Congress).

“During last five years, Congress leadership has totally lost contact with the people, for long I was feeling suffocated in the party with no forum available to express my views which ultimately resulted in my quitting the party,” Ms Singh told reporters here after she joined the BJP in presence of party’s national vice-president Shyam Jaju, Union Minister Vijay Goel and other leaders.

The former Delhi Commission for Women chief also vowed to work at the grassroot level in BJP to ensure that the benefits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schemes reach the poorest of poor.
Welcoming her in the party, Mr Goel said, “Ms Singh has a long experience of working for causes of the women and I hope her joining will strengthen the team within the BJP working for women empowerment.

” Ms Singh’s move to join the BJP comes a day after she was expelled for six years by the Delhi Congress for “anti-party activities,” and just before MCD elections.
