Banking operations today came to a standstill in Madhya Pradesh as about 40,000 bank employees of nationalised banks joined a nationwide one-day strike called by the United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU) over a host of issues including the demand for immediate wage revision.
About 4,000 branches of nationalised banks in the state remained closed. Nearly, 4,500 employees in the state capital’s 360 branches joined the strike, according to a Madhya Pradesh Bank Employees Association’s spokesman.
The strike affected banking transactions to the tune of nearly Rs 3.22 lakh crore including business of about Rs 80,000 crore in the state capital. A rally was taken out by agitating employees in Press Complex area here.
