Spiritual leader Asaram Bapu has raked up big controversy here last night holding the Delhi gang-rape victim equally responsible for the crime saying the the 5-6 drunken youth alone were not guilty.
He also opposed the idea of stringent laws for preventing rape and held that these could be misused. Addressing his followers at the Gandhi Park here last night, Asaram said the accused alone where not esponsible…
‘taali ek haath se nahin bajti’ (it took two to clap). She could have proclaimed them brothers and could have begged before them.
He said there are moves about enactment of more stringent laws, but, this could also be counter productive as there is possibility of their misuse for bad elements. “If something goes wrong (punishment/hanging), against men, ultimate sufferers will again be mothers and/or sisters,” he said adding that already many laws like the Dowry Act were being misused to great extent.
The religious leader said he was instrumental in enactment of law for preventing sexual abuses/misconduct in Chhattisgarh. “Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot possesses a humanitarian mind set and he should also contemplate move making such law in this state,” he said.
