Arya not traced in raid on house in Gwalior

Gwalior : Police conducted raid at Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for General Administration Lal Singh Arya’s house in Gwalior to arrest him but failed to find him. According to police sources, the arrest warrant against Arya who has been named accused in then Gohad Congress legislator Makhanlal Jatav’s murder could not be served even after six days.

A special court here had issued a warrant against the Minister on December 5. Taking into consideration the seriousness of matter, the court had directed Superintendent of Police Prashant Khare to execute the warrant himself or assign the responsibility to a Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) rank officer. Khare had assigned the responsibility to Gohad SDOP Praveen Ashtana.

Ashtana said the raid was carried out yesterday but it did not bear fruit. His team is working hard to execute the warrant. Jatav was shot dead while he was campaigning for Lok Sabha elections on April 13, 2009. On the basis of his security guard Shivraj Singh’s complaint, police made Narayan Sharma, Sher Singh, Mevaram, Sethi Kaurav, Gandharva Singh, Kedar Singh, Tejnarayan Sharma (since deceased) and Ramrup Singh Gurjar accused in the case.

Based on the deceased legislator’s son and former legislator Ranveer Jatav’s allegations, a court here named the minister an accused in the murder. Arya moved the HC’s Gwalior Bench, which cancelled the lower court order and directed fresh hearing.

However, Arya moved the Supreme Court but it quashed his petition on July 24 and directed that the case be continued in Bhind. He was named an accused again by the Bhind court on August 24. A bailable warrant was issued against him. His subsequent pleas before the High Court’s Gwalior Bench for stay and anticipatory bail were also rejected.
