On Friday, a seven-year-old male died, after getting in contact with a live electric wire set-up. The wire set-up was done by a farmer around his farm in Seoni distt, a forest official said.
In Zilpur village, a farmer Raj Kumar had set-up electric fence around his farm to protect from animals. TS Suliya, divisional forest officer (DFO) Seoni south, told that he was booked under the Wildlife Protection Act.
As building of electric fence is illegal. Electrocution cases are also treated like poaching cases. Villagers are also caught for laying such wires for killing wild animals especially for their meat.
Carcass of a seven-year-old tigress have also been found by the forest officials in Satpura Tigre Reserve (STR) on Thursday. According to the reserve’s field director L Krishnamurthy there were no injury marks on the body of the tigress.
The samples of its internal organs have been sent to the animal forensic labs at Jabalpur, Sagar and one in Uttar Pradesh. The exact cause of death will be revealed once the reports arrive.
Earlier this month, three tiger deaths were reported in Madhya Pradesh. The population of tigers in the state has come down to 233 from 308 in 2015.
