An all-party meet today discussed a range of issues, including recent Supreme Court judgement on lawmakers disqualification and bills to be passed in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
’We discussed the Supreme Court judgements. We also discussed various bills to be passed in the session,’’ Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath told reporters after the meeting at Parliament complex.
He said all parties stressed on the supremacy of Parliament. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the government has said it will bring an amendment to the People’s Representation Act. She said the Bill on Judicial Commission should be sent to the Standing Committee. Ms Swaraj said the Congress members were disrupting Parliament. In an earlier all-party meet also, all the parties were united to oppose the Supreme Court’s ruling that politicians in jail cannot contest elections and lawmakers convicted of a crime have to quit immediately.
