Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has indicated that his party will take a decision on government formation in Delhi by tonight or today on the basis of people’s opinion collected by the party.
‘’A number of public meetings are going on today, including four in my own constituency New Delhi. We will make the declaration tomorrow morning only after we get the opinion of people of Delhi,’’ Mr Kejriwal told reporters here.
AAP sources have said Mr Kejriwal will meet Lt Governor Najeeb Jung around 1230 hrs hours after addressing the media at 1100 hrs today.
‘’We will go by people’s opinion on government formation. We never went to the Congress or the BJP seeking their support to form a Government. But both the parties are ready to support us. Should we form the Government?’’ he asked people during a ‘Jansabha’ at Sarojini Nagar.
His question was replied by people gathered with chantings ‘’Sarkar banao, hum apke sath hain’’ (form Government, we are with you).
‘’This is happening for the first time in the country that the common man is being asked for his opinion on Government formation. If we form Government we will again come before you asking how to run the Government. Our decisions will not be taken by only five people in a closed door meeting,’’ he said.
Mr Kejriwal, who is also AAP Legislature Party leader, said earlier the common man’s role was limited to just voting but now they were going out to them and making them feel empowered.
The RTI activist-turned-politician claimed that this was a ‘’true democracy’’.
He also slammed the Congress and the BJP.
Mr Kejriwal expressed that both the parties were saying that AAP was doing a ‘drama’ by seeking people’s opinion. But, he said, this ‘nautanki’ (drama) was the democracy.
He also refuted allegations that the AAP was hesitant to form Government as it was not sure whether it would be able to fulfill the promises made in its election manifesto.
