Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said before the New York attack of 2001, apparently the world did not know the importance of 9/11 and said it’s high time to understand that the 9/11 of 1893 was about “love and brotherhood”.

“Had we not forgotten our own 9/11, may be another 9/11 would not have taken place,” Mr Modi addressing a gathering of students and youngsters here to mark celebration of 125th year of Swami Vivekananda’s speech and part of celebration of Deendayal Upadhyaya centenary year.

“The 9/11 of 1893 was about love, harmony and brotherhood unlike the one of 2001 which was about destruction and hatred,” Mr Modi said.

Prime Minister said while Swami Vivekananda spoke highly about India and Indian religion in the US, he also did candid speaking and had attacked “social evils in India strongly”.

In this context, Prime Minister said, perhaps the contemporary Indians also do not perhaps have the right to raise the slogan ‘Vande Mataram’.
