Five police officials including three town inspectors (TIs) and two sub-inspectors (SIs) were suspended for negligence and delay in registering a case in a gang-rape incident on October 31 night.

“A preliminary investigation was carried out by DIG (Crime Against Women) Sudhir Laad. Prima facie, Town Inspector (Habibganj) Arvind Yadav, TI (MP Nagar) Sanjay Singh Bais, TI (Government Railway Police, Habibganj) Mohit Saxena, SI RN Tekam and SI Uikey were found guilty and suspended,” Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Makrand Deoskar told media here.

“Besides, City Superintendent of Police Kulwant Singh has been attached to the headquarters,” he said. The victim was returning from coaching class on October 31 when four men caught hold of her, forcibly took her to a desolate place near the Habibganj Railway Station and sexually assaulted.

After the girl returned late in the night, her parents who are also police officials took her to police station on the next day for registering a case but they were forced to run from one police station to another to get the case registered cause police officials could not agree on the jurisdiction.
