Puducherry, An estimated 47 percent of the total 9,73,410 electorate have exercised their franchise in the Puducherry Lok Sabha Constituency till this afternoon.
Polling which began on a dull note picked up momentum as the day advanced and again became sluggish by noon because of the scorching heat.The polling is peaceful so far, Election Department sources said.
Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, Leader of the Opposition N Rangaswamy and PCC president A Namasivayam were among those who cast their votes in the early hours of polling for the Puducherry Lok Sabha seat.
The polling was delayed in some constituencies including in Muthialpet and Koravallimedu due to technical snags developed in EVMs and it was resumed after replacing the EVMs.
Mr V Vaithilingam of the Congress and K Narayanasamy of the N R Congress were the main contestants in the Lok Sabha election. Sixteen others are also there in the fray.
The voting will come to a close at 6 PM. In the Thattanchavady Assembly bypoll about 45 percent of the total 29,320 voters exercised their franchise till this afternoon.Mr Nedumcheziyan of the N R Congress and Venkatesan of the DMK besides six others are in the fray.
