26 killed, 12 injured as MSRTC bus falls in Mashej ghat

In one of the worst road accidents at the start of the year, 26 people lost their lives and 12 others injured as an MSRTC bus fell down into the Malshej Ghat today.

The accident occurred, when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus with 38 passengers on board was proceeding from Thane to Ahmednagar and near the Tokawade on the Malshej Ghat, it fell into a 400-foot-ravine, killing the passengers,

sources in the district disaster control room said.

Of the total dead, 20 bodies were kept at Ottur and six were lying in a Junnar hospital.

The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in and around Thane and Pune, the sources added.
