Burhanpur, Oct 11:
The death toll in the violence escalated in Burhanpur on Friday reached eight on Saturday with the recovery of three more bodies from village Jirotha's Lalbagh police station area. Indefinite curfew clamped in the affected areas is continued on Saturday also. According to DGP SK Raut, no violent incident was taken place after Friday night.
Meanwhile, two more victims of riots, admitted to MY hospital Indore under critical condition yesterday, succumbed to their injuries today. The deceased were stated to be workers of the Bharatiya Janshakti Party. As soon as the news of death reached among the local BJS workers, they gathered at MY hospital in large number and created ruckus there.
With the death of two more persons, the death toll in Burhanpur riots has reached five. The riots had already claimed lives of three persons in Burhanpur yesterday, while two others identified as Rakesh Shukla and Deepak Malhotra who had sustained severe injuries, had been referred to MY hospital on Friday night.
While Deepak succumbed to his injuries on the way, Rakesh died sometime after he was admitted to MY hospital. As soon as the news of death spread, a large number of the Bharatiya Janshakti Party workers swarmed at MY hospital by 9 am on Saturday. Thereafter, they created ruckus on the hospital and raised slogans. The district administration as a precautionary measure had deputed large posse of police force on the hospital campus since early in the morning on Saturday so as to avoid any untoward incident.
The relatives of one of the deceased identified as Deepak informed that Deepak was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by some persons while he was returning from his farm. While the second deceased was an auto-rickshaw driver. He was stopped on the way and attacked with sharp-edged weapons.
Following complaints of the kin of the deceased, the police have registered a case of murder against the persons concerned.
