More than 100 women offered their 'Namaz' for first time at the mosque on the occasion of Eid-ul-fitr yesterday. Imam Shabina Bano led the Namaz.

Muslim women have been prohibited to offer namaz in mosques. In order to abolish the age-old taboo, retired teacher Noorbaqsh had taken upon himself the task of constructing the mosque in the town's Subhash Nagar, where only women could offer namaz.

On a special request,women police personnel were deployed outside the shrine during the Id prayers.

''Few socalled leaders of the community banned women from offering prayers, hence I built this shrine to solemnise the noble cause,'' he added.
