The
state government making the process easier for cutting of
building trees, has authorized the tehsildars for giving permission
in this connection. This step of the state government is commendable
because the villagers would enjoy this easier process of getting
permission for cutting of trees. It is also commendable that
earlier there was process to cut only two cubic metres wood
within one year, now it has been ended. This rule earlier
existed during the British regime but there was condition
that the landowner would have to plant new saplings before
cutting trees. Same rules are required at present. Under the
new rule, the land owner who wants to cut trees, would have
to give application in three copies in written to the tehsildar
concerned. The tehsildar would make available these copies
to Sub Division Officer, Forest and Village Panchayat level
committee. After receiving recommendation report from these
authorities concerned, they would have to ensure that which
tree has been reserved for public interest or which tree is
expected to check soil erosion. It is sure that this new rule
would be easier for the landowners. But at the same time,
it should be ensured that there should not be any misuse of
these rules. A little bit relaxation in it, would lead to
cutting of trees in large scale and greenery would be affected
to a large extent. However, complete transparency needs to
be taken while implementing these rules, as a slight deviation
from it, may lead to an unaccounted feeling of trees. It should
be kept in mind that the trees which are going to be cut,
are completely developed or not. The landowners would be benefited
with this step of the government. But they should follow the
tradition of planting five saplings before cutting one tree.
