School students of the state capital and elsewhere in the state would be taught the science of weather. Under the scheme 'International Year of Planet' weather stations will be set up at schools in the country. The Science Centre will implement this scheme in 300 districts of the country including some selected districts of the state. Under this scheme, weather kits will be distributed to the schools where this scheme is being implemented. The National Science Council, New Delhi, is co-ordinating this programme.
The Importance - Under this scheme the school students will learn about measuring of heat and humidity, expectation of rain, and the expected time the rain will arrive. So far this was the job of the meteorological centre. Now the news of rains could be obtained from the schools after implementation of the scheme. The aim of the scheme is to increase the knowledge about weather among the students. The students will be trained in this science at the school level and weather kits will be distributed to them.
The Weather Kit
The schools will distribute weather kits to the students. The weather kit would contain rainguards to measure rain, thermometer to measure heat, Windhaven to know which way the wind is passing, anometer to measure the speed of wind, etc. The students would collect the information of weather and keep the records. The school will also teach the students about how to measure the pressure of wind.
No. of schools selected
Schools of 300 districts including a few districts in the state will be selected for this scheme. Weather station department will be set up and the selection of schools will be done at the meeting of core group. All districts of Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur divisions will include in this scheme.
Other Materials
Along with the weather kit the students will get printed materials describing how to operate the items in the kit. The printed materials would also inform about the manufacturing of the items.
How to process - Mother kits would be distributed to important schools in the state. The kit would be used for test of weather in small towns and villages. The weather kit would then be distributed to the schools and the teachers will be trained to operate the kits so that they can teach the students.
