The longstanding impasse between the Rajasthan government and the Gujjars finally ended today with the government agreeing to 5% reservation for the Gujjar, Banjara & Rewari communities within OBC the quota. Following the announcement, Gujjars have called off their agitation.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje declared the deal in Jaipur in the presence of Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla and senior BJP leader Ram Das Agarwal, who had led the government side in the talks with them.
The agreement states that the Gujjars will be given five per cent reservation as special category. Rebaris and Banjaras will be given a similar package.
Bainsla announced that the stir would be called off when he reaches Karwadi-Pilupura in Bharatpur district, the nerve centre of the stir . He also hoped that there will not be any need to hold protests in the future. He further added that now it is the turn of Central Government to look into the matter and do the needful.
Speaking to the media about the positive turn of their campaign, Bainsla said that "credit goes to all" for the success of the talks. He appreciated the Chief Minister, calling her a good administrator.
Raje too ended on a positive note, expressing hope of peace and development in Rajasthan in future.
Meanwhile the government also agreed to give compensation of one laks and five lakhs respectively to the families of the injured and dead and along with the promise of government job to one family member.
