There
seems to be no end to the agitation by the Gujjar community.
The agitation which started from Rajasthan spread to New Delhi,
Haryana and some other parts of North India on Thursday. All
India Gujjar Mahasabha had called for bandh in the National
Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday. The stir has claimed over
39 lives with injuries to many people. It is the duty of the
government to include certain caste people in a special category
of caste. Under the Indian Constitution any person has the
right to express his views freely and in that manner the Gujjar
community too has their right. But, the Constitution does
not say to achieve any demands by resorting to violent methods.
Even though the Constitution has given us a number of rights,
yet it has also set up responsibilities for us to follow.
It is the duty of every citizen to maintain peace and not
to provoke people to violent means to achieve anything. Destruction
of public property is in no way justified to meet one's demands.
Dialogue is the best medium. It may be recalled that the Gujjar
Mahasabha had announced an award of Rs 5 crore to anyone who
to brings the head of Rajasthan Chief Minister. At the same
time the Gujjar dacoits too have issued warning to blow up
the Dhaulpur located palace of Vasundhara Raje if the community's
demand is not met with. This is not becoming of leaders in
a democracy. People are forgetting the history of India. Father
of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi had employed peaceful means
to achieve freedom. On the same basis a number of other nations
of the world too obtained freedom. Even otherwise the reservation
system, in vogue for the last several years has not brought
very encouraging results. Taking the law into own hands only
lowers the prestige of any community. It is gratifying to
note that the Rajasthan government is ready to begin talks
with the Gujjar Mahasabha. At the same time Gujjar leader
Bainsla too said he could consider talking to the Rajasthan
government provided it made a "proper proposal".
