Schizophrenia and crime

The dictionary meaning of (a) Schizophrenia reads: `mental disease marked by disconnexion between thoughts, feelings and actions, and (b) Meaning of crime: Act (Usually grave offence punishable by law; evil act, sin...and `crime passionnel' is crime due to jealousy ..(crime of passion).

According to some studies which were done sporadically, whether Schizophrenia is a psychiatrist or medical disease is not still established. Nitrogen found in farm chicken and all proteins causes certain metabolic disorders. Thyroxine alone neutralizes nitrogen. Some symptoms of Schizophrenia are hallucination, irritability and weight gain.

The reasons could very well be poverty, illiteracy, superstition, blood groups, and mismatches in marriages- which are primarily governed by acquisition of wealth, naturally by the parents or guardians of the grown (dulhe raja). Have we heard of `dulha rani'? It is simply dulhan's. In our marriages, horoscopes are matched but not blood group or Rhesus factors. My dog lover friends would certainly value `pedigree' of a pup. Why?

Marriage bio-pen-profiles generally show how well placed the relatives of the mother are, especially in the case of a successful father- a businessman or a bureaucrat, Nana, Mami, Mausi are more important who have all belonged to a `gotra' other than that of the child because they later belong to the `gotra' of the hapless father. Therefore children born to incompatible sociological biological factors `genes' of the parents do have, to some extent produce hybrid qualities in their children, such products are either excellent or deficient extremes in nature not corresponding to either lineage- the `genes' of father or mother.

We consume non-potable water, adulterated and unhygienic food all worse than the advanced and illustrious races. Plus, the geographical factors like fort- like subcontinent largely dependent on rivers on the banks of which civilizations rose to prominence. A landlocked state like Madhya Prdesh or Uttar Pradesh, plus the historical factors like feudalism, fiefdom and kingdom ruled the roost. Further, traditions and customs do have an impact.

To revert back to the topic under discussion, Schizophrenia is a prime factor that leads to crime- the prevalent types of crime that become sensational in India. Sir Cecil Hurst in his book `Crime in India ' traced the causes of crime as `zar, zoru, zameen'. He was an ICS officer who was the chief justice of the united provinces.

Have the basic reasons changed till date?

With the growth of population, in fact, and (rapid) development some more causes branching out of the said three most important causes have become sine quo non. Any doubts?

Mind you, in spite of having been the largest democracy where every person above the age of 18 has the power to elect his or her representative to the legislature have we been able to control crime? Criminology is abnormal psychology

Schizophrenia requires simple treatment by administering a particular drug. If our doctors think of adding this drug to other drugs they prescribe to their patients susceptible to Schizophrenia, perhaps, the seeds of crime be destroyed. I have observed a competent Dermatologist prescribing anti-amoebic medicine along with the required drugs for skin ailments because as he claimed most of us suffer from ameobiasis. Some doctors Ayurvedic who assure speedy recovery prescribe or mix in the powder drugs steroids along with other medication. At least, jail-birds could be given these drugs for Schizophrenia likewise.

Our sleuths have not paid attention to Schizophrenia and the like to be the causes of commission of even `rarest of the rare offences. We have heard of various reforms in the Tihar jail but any step towards containment of Schizophrenia has not been observed or highlighted. Well, the reason could be that the officials planning out reforms and executing them may have in al probability been Schizophrenia themselves!

The Indian Police Commission 1902-03 said that the people get a government that they deserve. Moreover, according to IP Pavlov, theory of `pairing or association' the investigators, sleuths, reformers, policy makers and those who sit in judgement over such ghastly social malady, too, become Schizophrenic? To make things clear let us see the approach of a physician surgeon or psychiatrist to a particular ailment. Further they exhibit qualities good or bad found in people whom they interact day in and day out. In similar fashion, the competence, tact and performance of a policeman who belongs to the executive police (thana police) are much too different from a police uniform clad wireless operator, armed policemen) call him paramilitary man) or clerical staff.

Zar, Zoru, Zameen being the causes of crime, the golden principles of `let a hundred guilty go unpunished but a single innocent man should not be punished and benefit of doubt, guiding our judicial system from the British Raj are to use a colloquial jargon Nem pe karela' products.

I wonder if we can address these inherent maladies? If there is will there is a way. So do we make corrected efforts to generate such `will' amongst our common men and in those who rule them?
