MP Cong memo to Govr

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, May 27: The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee today urged Governor Balram Jakhar's intervention for annulling the state government's ''unconstitutional'' amendment of the fees and appeal rules under the Right to Information Act.

A delegation led by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi and Congress state President Suresh Pachouri met Dr Jakhar, submitted a memorandum and alleged that amendment to the rules and extension of the time period -- from 30 to 180 days -- for disposal of a second appeal was a concerted attempt to render the Act ineffective.

''The amendment's motive is to conceal corruption by the Chief Minister and bureaucrats ahead of the assembly polls,'' the memo alleged.
