Red wheat not to be distributed through FPS: CM

Bhopal, May 27: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that red wheat would not be distributed through fair price shops from next month. Instead, good quality wheat procured on support price would be distributed under Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana.

The Chief Minister reviewed the implementation of Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana here at Mantralaya today. He said that distribution of procured quality wheat would be started by organising a function at every district headquarter from next month.

The Chief Minister apprised himself of the quantity of wheat being procured from the farmers and arrangements for its storage. He directed to maintain a constant watch on implementation of the Annapurna Yojana for distribution of subsidised food grains to the poor. Lethargy would not be tolerated at any level, he warned.

It was decided at the meeting that with a view to making it possible to distribute 35 kg of food grain to every family through fair price shops the matter would be taken up afresh with the central government. At present only 20 kg of food grain is being distributed to every family due to allotment of the same for 40 lakh. BPL families in place of about 60 lakh ones in the state. Chouhan said the he himself and the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Akhand Pratap Singh would take up the issue with concerning central ministers again.

The meeting was informed that directives have been issued to ensure distribution of food grains on prescribed dates in the presence of nodal officers through fair price shops.

As per the directives, fixing a date between 15th and 25th of every month would make food grain distribution. The meeting also discussed the arrangements for fertilisers, seeds etc for ensuing kharif season.

The meeting was attended among others by the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Akhand Pratap Singh; Principal Secretary, Agriculture Pravesh Sharma; Commissioner, Food KP Singh; Chief Minister's Secretaries SK Mishra and SPS Parihar and other concerning officers concerned.
