Diminishing possibility for all in coming poll

Apropos of MK Dhar's- Congress need to firm up alliance (CC 17/05). The writer realistically assessed the emerging political scenario and looking to the trend that is not quite promising for any of the mainline political parties on one hand and the aspiration of the third front too is not going to fructify unless and until the Mayawati phenomenon in UP, the State that elects the maximum MPs to the Lok Sabha, some hard look or rather soul searching is very much necessary for the Congress in general and the BJP in particular.

The latest report in some sections of the media that the RSS demand for a Cong-BJP alliance government to be formed at the Centre vent much credence to the unlikely situation of any of the present combinations being in a position to come up victorious to form a government at the Centre. Given the situation that neither the BJP led NDA nor the Congress led UPA would come anywhere near to such a demand of the RSS, as in that case only the Third Front led by the Communists would get enough gunpowder for more vigorous propaganda to form up a convincing alliance, provided they can bring round both Mulayam Singh and Mayawati together.

Mayawati, on the other hand, is burning much of her midnight oil how to have a clean sweep in UP, drowning the SP, the BJP and the Congress, so that she would emerge not as the king maker but as the real king around which, first the BJP led (NDA) would volunteer to form an alliance government- the only hitch is LK Advani would have to forego his long cherished ambition of becoming the next PM. In that eventuality, what the Congress should start doing in right earnest is (i) bury the personal ambitions of some of its senior leaders (ii) hold on all its present allies tightly (iii) don't project Rahul Gandhi but only a clean, non-controversial and widely acceptable person as the would be PM (iv) stabilize price situation/inflation (v) implement the Indo-US nuclear deal boldly, unmindful of the Leftists threat of withdrawal and focus on to win back all those states where the BJP-NDA would face the anti-establishment backlash.
