Other Assembly election results: BJP retains Hamirpur LS seat

Hamirpur, May 25: BJP today retained the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat with its candidate Anurag Thakur winning the byelection with a record margin of about 1.75 lakh votes.

Mr Thakur, son of HP Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, humbled his Congress rival and former minister O P Rattan with a margin of 1,74,666 votes in the bypoll, in which a total of 5,85,433 votes were polled, Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Nandita Gupta said.

SAD-BJP retains Amritsar

Amritsar: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP today retained the Amritsar (South) assembly seat in Punjab with coalition nominee Inderbir Singh Bularia winning by a margin of over 22,233 votes.

Mr Bularia, who polled 43,495 votes, defeated his nearest rival Navdeep Goldie of the Congress, who got 21,262 votes.

Bhajan Lal wins Adampur seat

Chandigarh, May 25: : Congress today secured victory in two of the three Assembly seats in Haryana, while former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal of Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) won the Adampur constituency seat in the state where bypolls were held on May 22.

Lal defeated his nearest rival Ranjit Singh of the Congress by a margin of 26,188 votes, while former Finance Minister Sampat Singh of the INLD came third.

Sena retains Thane LS seat

Mumbai, May 25: : Shiv Sena today defeated the Nationalist Congress Party by a margin of 90,872 votes and retained the Thane Lok Sabha seat.

Shiv Sena's Anand Paranjpe secured 462,766 votes after the 13th and final round of counting while his nearest rival Sanjeev Naik of the NCP polled 371,894 votes.

Chandrasekhar Shukla of the Samajwadi Party came third, having polled 20,971 votes.

The by-election had been necessitated due to the demise of Anand's father Prakash Paranjpe who had represented the constituency for four consecutive terms since 1996.
