'Gossiping relieves tension': Best pastime for youth

Bhopal Today Team

Bhopal, May 25: 'Naa umr ki seema ho naa janma ka ho bandhan, jab gossip kare koi to dekhe kewal mun...' The gist of these lines distorted by youths is to keep gossiping about whoever he or she might be without considering his age or social status. Gossiping has gripped every section of society and it has become the most endeared pastime for the school and college students. When gossiping starts in a group no one is left unscathed from all sorts of comments. Sometimes gossiping groups also indulge in criticising a friend, relative or even a passerby. Gossiping was once thought to be the sole pastime of women and girls. But nowadays even boys and grown-ups have become used to it. But the question arises whether it is good to gossip or whether we actually require it. Bhopal Today Team interviewed many youths on the issue.

According to Aditi Sharma, gossip is the best and simplest way to get relief from tension by opening one's heart out. If people have a grudge against someone and it keeps nagging their minds then it is best way to wriggle out of the emotional choke by criticising the person in absentia in a lighter vein.

Model Bharat Kotwani, however, differs from Aditi. He says grudge or no grudge against anyone, it is always interesting and entertaining to gossip about anyone. Apart from getting refreshed due to laughing, we also hone our communication skills through gossiping.

Avinash Date, a student, said that the best thing about gossiping is that this interesting subject has no time-limit. You can have fun unlimited at any place and any time whether you are in the college, on the railway platform or in the company of your friends. What you have to do is just another person or persons and start hitting out against someone in absentia. The gossiping becomes endless when the entire group starts bitching about the same person.

Devendra Shukla however, gave a dissenting note about gossiping. He said nowadays gossiping has gone so widespread that people discuss a person's weaknesses with their friends on the mobile phones for hours together. He said it is sheer wastage of time and energy. In fact, I feel that we can indulge in some constructive work instead of gossiping.

Vinay Sarathe denies the sole reason behind gossiping about someone is grudge or jealousy. It is only a time pass activity and should not taken by the person concerned seriously. However, it should be within permissible moral and social limits.
