Bharatiya Janata Party, under the leadership of former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, will meet Karnataka Governor Rameswar Thakur tomorrow and stake its claim to form a new government.
Disclosing this to newsmen at the party office here a beaming Yeddyurappa said the legislature party would meet in the afternoon to elect him as the leader formally. After this the legislators would meet the Governor to stake the claim, he added.
The party, on the verge of winning 111 seats, just two short of the magic figure 113 required for a simple majority, said it has the support of four independents out of the seven who are close to victories.
Terming the party's victory as historic, Mr Yeddyurappa said the national party leaders had already been consulted and discussions held with regard to mustering support from independents to form the government.
The election process ends by May 28 on the day the Commision was expected to notifiy the constitution of the 13th Legislative Assembly in Karnataka.
Split in secular votes led to defeat: Cong
New Delhi, May 25: : AICC General Secretary in-charge of the Karnataka Prithviraj Chavan told mediapersons that the 'split' in the secular votes by the JD(S) had helped the BJP to gain more seats this time.
Blaming the Janata Dal (Secular) for the division of secular votes in Karnataka, the Congress Party on Sunday said the verdict against it in the assembly election in the southern state was not a referendum on the performance of the UPA government at the Centre.

Kharge wins a record 9th Assembly seat
KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge created a record by winning the Assembly election for the ninth consecutive term when he defeated BJP's Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 17,456 votes from Chithapur. He represented Gurmitkal but changed his constitutency to Chitapur after delimitation.

SM Krishna (Congress): It's a disappointment. We haven't done as well as we had thought we would do,But in a democratic set up, we have to accept people's mandate.
