`Z' security to Amar Singh

New Delhi, May 24: With Samajwadi Party mending its fences with the Congress, the Union Home Ministry was quick to acknowledge the gesture by fulfilling the long-standing demand of SP leader Amar Singh for upgrading his security to Z category.

The decision was taken by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, sources said, adding the decision was more of a political nature rather than having a bearing on his security.

Singh, who enjoyed 'Y' security with three PSO guarding him round the clock, will now get 'Z' security, which will comprise eight policemen guarding him and his residence round the clock. In addition, he will also get a pilot and an escort car.

The decision comes close on the heels of the new found love between Congress and Samajwadi Party, which was reflected in SP being invited for a dinner to mark the four years of UPA in office.

During the dinner, Amar Singh was seen closely with Patil so as to utilise the opportunity to renew his request for more security cover.

For almost a year now, the Samajwadi Party MP has been pressing for more protection, particularly after UP Chief Minister Mayawati scaled down his security cover.
