Bhopal, May 24:
Improvement in power supply is being witnessed all over the state. In the wake of persistent efforts of the state government, there has been considerable improvement in the supply of coal to thermal power plants of the state from the Union government. However, the state government is continuing its efforts for total improvement.
According to Energy Department, no power cut was made anywhere in the state on May 23. In view of this, power is being supplied for 21 instead of 19 hours in the districts, 19 instead of 15 hours in tehsils and 16 instead of 12 hours in villages.
Due to improvement in the situation, the demand and supply gap has also started decreasing. On May 23, supply of 3765 megawatt power was made against the demand of 4320 megawatts between 6 am to 6 pm in the first phase with the difference amounting to 555 megawatts. Similarly in the second phase between 6 to 11 pm, 4690 megawatt power was supplied against the demand of 5260 megawatt with a gap of 570 megawatts. In the third phase from 11 pm to 6 am, 4400 megawatt power was supplied against the demand of 4690 megawatt. In this phase the gap was only 155 megawatts. Madhya Pradesh was forced to draw more power than its quota from the grid, but in the wake of improvement in the situation the state is drawing power of its share only.
Due to state government's efforts, the supply of coal to thermal power stations in the state from the Union government has also improved.
The coal supply situation at Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station at Birsinghpur is improving since May 22. On this day six railway rakes brought 21 thousand 200 metric tonnes of coal here. About 17 thousand 500 tonnes of coal is used daily at this power plant. In this way, coal stock has gone by 3700 metric tonnes here. Despite this, efforts are being undertaken to increase the stock further by keeping constant watch over availability and supply.
In the wake of intensive efforts undertaken by the state government, at present Satpura thermal power station at Sarni and Amarkantak thermal power station have coal stocks of 77 and 95 metric tonnes respectively. According to Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company, power generation at all the three thermal plants is continuing.
