It is good that the MP Police got active the moment it came to know of the bomb blasts in Jaipur and have been conducting surprise checks of suspected places and individuals. Constant vigilance is the only way to prevent terrorist attacks and/or to minimize damage/losses if they do take place despite the best of efforts of the police.
Since terrorism is a reality and the terrorists have been striking frequently, it will be highly desirable if the police do not lower their guards and instead heighten vigilance and surveillance of suspects.
It was sad to note that the District Security Schemes have not been regularly updated and drilled. This should be insisted upon and personally supervised by the supervisory officers. Moreover trauma care capability needs to be developed at every district Headquarters which is not the case at present. In this connection I must appreciate the Jaipur police. They were out on streets within minutes of the blasts and took good care of the unfortunate victims.
Without beefing up general policing and local intelligence it is not possible to fight terrorism. The MP government must take immediate action on the two counts by stepping up recruitment and training of policemen. All our development and welfare schemes will come to naught if we cannot eliminate terrorism lock, stock and barrel.
