Misbah propels Challengers to 154

Agencies

Bangalore, May 19: Misbah-ul-Haq blasted 47 runs off just 25 balls, including 24 runs in the last over to power Bangalore Royal Challengers to a fighting 154 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

A brilliant 52 by SP Goswami brought the Bangalore team back into the match as they looked to post a fighting total on the board. However, Goswami departed soon after as he holed out to Dilshan at mid-wicket of Maharoof.

Just as Bangalore looked to be consolidating their innings after two quick wickets, Rahul Dravid went trying to force the pace. Dravid, who scored 9 runs was cleaned up by Dilshan as he tried to heave a quicker one over mid-wicket.

After getting off to a steady start, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost two quick wickets with just 41 runs on the board. The latest casualty was Jacques Kallis who fell to Farveez Maharoof as he tried to drive a swinging ball but edged it into the hands of wicket keeper Karthik.

Earlier, Chipli became the first casualty after he holed out to Rajat Bhatia off Glenn McGrath for 2.

Delhi Daredevils skipper Virender Sehwag won the toss and elected to field first in their crucial encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore being played here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The motivation behind winning this match is very different for these two competing teams. Only a highly improbable statistical miracle will help the Bangalore Royal Challengers reach the semifinals, and the hosts will play for pride more than anything else. The Delhi Daredevils are in with a much better chance, a win here will spruce up their chances of making the Top 4. Delhi are in a bit of a slump right now, winning just one of their last 5 matches. They will however, fancy their chances against a demoralized Bangalore line-up who are languishing at the bottom of the table.
