Dacoit Babusingh Parihar shot

Bhopal, May 19: A notorious dacoit Babusingh Parihar, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 cash on his head, was shot dead in an encounter in the ravines near Bhind district's Budharpur village at wee hours today, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Singh said two 12-bore guns and daily use materials were seized from the spot. However, his six accomplices managed to escape. The dreaded dacoit was wanted in about 100 cases in several police stations of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh besides Madhya Pradesh.

Babusingh was the paternal uncle of notorious dacoit Jagjiwan Parihar, who was already eliminated, police added.

Man held for killing wife

A man was arrested on the charge of killing his wife for dowry in Dhar district's Sandla village, police said today.

The paternal family of the deceased lodged a complaint against victim's husband Pratap Singh, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law yesterday.

Local-resident Sadhna, who was married to Ujjain's Palikhedi village-resident Pratap two years ago, was being mentally and physically tortured for dowry just after the wedding. Sadhna was found dead in suspicious circumstances on May 9 and her last rites were performed without informing police.

Her parents were informed that she had died of snake bite. Despite repeated requests from Sadhna's parents, her in-laws did not allow them to saw her body. Pratap was arrested yesterday, police added.

Woman electrocuted

An 18-year-old woman was electrocuted when she went to a factory premises to fetch water in Dhar district's Pithampur town, police said today. Kamta village-resident Raikubai received electric shocks and died when she touched a shed near the water tap yesterday.

Rs 3.5 lakh looted from bank

Bhopal, May 19: Four armed robbers today looted Rs 3.5 lakh from State Bank of Indore's Navda Panth branch at Dhar road here, police said.

''The motorcycle-borne robbers barged into the bank and overpowered guard and other bank employees and looted Rs 3.5 lakh from them. One guard received minor injuries,'' Superintendent of Police Anshuman Yadav said.

Police have sealed the area. Senior bank officials from the main branch of the bank rushed to the concerned branch. Security details of the bank were being investigated.

Recently, a bank official was killed and Rs 19 lakh looted from him in the town.
