London, May 18: Five Indians, including Ranbaxy chief Malvinder Mohan Singh, have been named among the 40 most influential people in the global pharmaceutical industry by a UK magazine for their contribution to this business.

These Indians, who also include former Drugs Controller General of India and top officials at drug makers Aurobindo Pharma and Panacea Biotec and a drug producers' association, share the honours with the likes of legendary investor Warren Buffet and former US president Bill Clinton in the list.

The list has been topped by Nobel prize winners Marlo R Capecchi, Sir Martin J Evans and Oliver Smithes together, followed by international pharma giant Genentech's Chairman and Chief Executive Arthur Levinson at the second position.

The rankings have been compiled by London-based World Pharmaceutical Frontiers' magazine.

Among the Indians on the list, former Drugs Controller General of India M Venkateswarlu has been ranked the highest at an overall 16th place, followed by Ranbaxy CEO and Managing Director Malvinder Mohan Singh (21), Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India President Ranjit Shahani (24), Aurbindo Pharma Chairman Ramprasad Reddy (35) and Panacea Biotec's Joint Managing Director Rajesh Jain (40).

Besides, the list also includes Bill Clinton, founder of Clinton Foundation, at the ninth position and Warren Buffet is ranked at the 25th.

Technology czar Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates, who are also co-directors of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, are at the third place, followed by World Health Organisation's Director General Margaret Chan at the fourth.

Buffet, named as the world's richest person by Forbes, has made it into the list for his USD 31 billion contribution to the Gates Foundation.
