Manipal to get Rs 1,435 cr FDI; FM clears 18 proposals  

New Delhi, May 16:
Finance Minister P Chidambaram has approved 18 FDI totalling Rs 1,820.24 crore, including Manipal Educational Group's to induct foreign investment of Rs 1,435 crore in a holding company and US-based Freightcar to set up a joint venture for railcars.
 
Sensex ends up 81pts; Ranbaxy gains 3%

The Sensex opened with positive gap 123 points at 17,476, and soon slipped into a negative zone and touch a low of 17,315.
 
Tata Steel to start work at Kalinganagar

Aditya Birla Nuvo has forayed into apparel retail with the launch of Peter England People, it's first family store, at Mumbai. The company expects to garner Rs 4,500 crore ($1.5 billion) revenue from the apparel retail business in next five years.
 
Windows to run on One Laptop per child computer 

Seatle, May 16:
Microsoft Corp reached an agreement to make available its Windows operating system software for the One Laptop Per Child Foundation's XO Laptop, the company said on Thursday.
