Avoidable accidents |
| While one may feel sorry for the sudden parting away of a young Vikram Kukreja (You can help an accident victim "Dr Pradeep Chourey" CC 13/05), I do agree with Dr Chourey that one of the reasons for such accidents `is the youngsters treating mobikes as aeroplanes. Now, that one more precious life has gone untimely from our midst, for reasons quite obvious, will there be anyone drawing some lessons out of it? Absolutely not, as in that case the intensity of such accidents would have come down. On the contrary, it is only increasing day by day. It has become a passion for our youngsters to do acrobats with mobikes right in the midst of roads. Even in busy intersections, during peak hours of traffic, they don't care even attending calls on their cell phones as well. Many a time, one feels like catching hold of such ones, beat them up whose heads turn to 80 degree curve, holding mobiles in between their neck and shoulder, talking and yet riding the bikes to its maximum speed. Whom do they want to show such daredevilry? And the curse is that our traffic policemen, like mute spectators, look the other way, instead of stopping such ruffians and fining them as per rules. In a way, the law enforcing Agencies too are helpless as in many cases the villains turn out to be in some way or other related to or connected with some or the other high and mighty in society - politics, administration or bureaucracy. After all, no one will come to the rescue of an honest policeman in the immediate event when he has to face the wrath from the godfathers of such rough and tough, damn cares.
The only way painful instances of young Vikram Kukreja like incidents can be arrested is through strict enforcement of discipline by parents who shouldn't submit to any amount of pressures of their wards to buy high speed, highly expensive bikes like Pulsar, Splendor etc that tempt these hot blooded youths to mistake them as jets on most unsuited, rough and potholed roads as in most areas of a capital city like Bhopal where these bikes cannot even provide half the average that their manufacturers publicize to entice majority of our non-productive youngsters who use them only for show up and one-up-monism. This piece is not borne out of any jealousy but seeing the sad and heartbreaking events like the Kukreja accident.
