Wonderful world of birds

Bhopal Today Team

Bhopal, May 14: The nature has its own rules, regulations, and laws. It cannot go against its own laws. Likewise, human beings have made laws for their own convenience. But the animals and birds live as per the law of nature. As soon as the climate changes, thousands of birds start migrating from far-flung countries to Bhopal and stay here till the weather in their patent country becomes suitable for them once again. From one place the birds will fly to another place where the weather is suitable to them. The birds can easily understand the changes in climate and start moving to the country suitable to them. We all know that some birds never stay at one place forever. They are like the gypsies. They keep moving to different places.

Our city also welcomes guest birds every year during summer and winter. They are usually seen on the banks of Upper Lake and in Van Vihar. In this climate the birds would multiply and when they leave the place after the summer is over, they will fly to another place with their offspring. Winged visitors to the capital city include Paradise Fly Catcher, Orient Robin, Golden Iora, Pillock, Indian Peta, Yellow Eye Babeler etc.

During the winter and summer the bird lovers and ornithologists of the state capital eagerly await the arrival of the local and migratory birds. During their stay here, some of the birds make nest to attract its mate for the purpose of laying eggs. But all birds are not the same. Some make the nest together.

More than 200 type of birds is seen in Madhya Pradesh. The climate has been changing and change of climate means time for the birds to come. Several types of birds have arrived in the state capital during this summer. The bird lovers of the city go to Van Vihar and the banks of Upper Lake to watch birds early in the morning. Bird watching is an interesting hobby provided you have the time to spare. It needs a lot of time and patience.

The Academy of Administration and the Forest Department have together organised a bird watching camp for bird lovers of the city, Hoshangabad and Khandwa districts. Such camp has been organising since the year 2005. The camp will be held in four days of the week and in four sessions. It will conclude in June. Surprisingly, the camp is attended by the 8 year-old to 80-year olds!

The Bhopal Today Team Reporter met some of the persons in connection with the bird watching hobby to know more about the birds and the habit of the bird watchers.

S Murthy is forest conservator at Van Vihar. According to him, so far 13 such camps have been organised. The aim of the camps is to bring awareness among the people about environment. If they are aware of the environment, they would not interfere with the nature, Murthy said.

J S Chouhan is former director of Van Vihar likes all type of birds and animals. I feel happy when I watch the birds and animals. Today is the first day of the camp. Those who attend the camp are not only bird watchers and knows about the habit of birds, but also they are aware and alert about the environment too. They know how to keep clean our surroundings.

Sangita is Bhopal Super Club President remembers that when she had attended the camp for the first time, she became friendly with some others who were attending. Together they made a group of themselves. At present I am doing PHHD on the habits of birds.

Ashutosh Dubey attends the camp every year in both seasons. Bird watching in the peaceful environment here gives him all the happiness and mental peace. He comes here along with his group.

Yash Gupta has been a regular visitor to the camp during both seasons since last two years. He has been watching about 55 types of birds here and he says it is very interesting. Birds from foreign countries could be seen here, he said.

Tanmay Atre is a first timer to the camp. It is very interesting to watch the birds here, he said. Today he has seen the state bird Paradise Fly Catcher. 'I was not aware that there are so many type of birds around us', he said.
