BJP condemns serial blasts in Jaipur

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, May 14: Condemning serial bomb blasts that rocked Jaipur city last night, the Madhya Pradesh BJP today said the Centre must implement the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) again to curb terrorism.

A resolution criticising terrorism was passed on the last day of the two-day meeting of the state BJP executive. The resolution lambasted the Centre for failing to control terrorism and not co-operating with state governments in this regard.

Paying tributes to innocent people killed by serial blasts, the resolution stated that the Centre had scrapped the POTA, which was implemented by the previous NDA regime.

On the other hand, the Centre is adopting appeasement policies leading to increase in terrorism. The BJP alleged that the Centre was not only not framing a stringent legislation to deal with terrorism but also not allowing state governments to do so. Certain state governments that had framed such legislation were not accorded central approval.

Talking to reporters here after the meeting, state BJP President Narendra Singh Tomar said the Madhya Pradesh Government had got a tough legislation passed in the Vidhan Sabha to deal with terrorist activities strictly. However, the legislation has not been accorded approval even after the lapse of one year.

Referring to action taken by the state government to control terrorist activities, the resolution pointed out that police launched a crackdown on the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and arrested several activists.

Tomar said the resolution also criticised beating up of state Mahila Congress President Shashi Rajput by Congressmen while sit-in was being staged by the Madhya Pradesh Congress in the state capital yesterday.

He said the incident revealed the true face of the party that claimed to be well-wisher of women. No one immediately came to Ms Rajput to enquire about her. Later, state Congress President Suresh Pachouri and Opposition leader Jamuna Devi met her.

A case has been registered against Congress councillor Vahid Lashkari, his brother Shafique and two others in this regard.
