You can help an accident victim

Thanks for the wide coverage about the recent roadside accident involving a young promising city lad Vikram Kukreja. He was the only son of his parents. The question which comes to our mind is that how come so many people just passed the accident site without even bothering to inform the police or carrying him to a hospital. Being a doctor I can say that ninety percent or more of these deaths can be prevented if the accident victim could be transported to a hospital DURING THE EARLY CRUCIAL HOURS. I tried to speak to some of the nearby persons who were ignorant of the fact that any person who shifts accident victim is not bound to disclose his identity, an order from court. I think this should be widely publicised through proper channel preferably the higher officials of the police department itself.

Parents should also be strict with their children regarding wearing of helmets and should keep whereabouts of them specially during late nights. We cannot solely depend on the police department for this. Awareness should come from each family of the society.

Youngsters should also treat their motorbikes as a source of transport and not aeroplanes. For God's sake do not leave your parents crying throughout their remaining lives.

Dr Pradeep Chourey, Bhopal
