A seminar of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India was held by branch of ICAI on Sunday at a city hotel.
In the seminar, eminent speakers Girish Ahuja (CA) and P S Sarin (advocate), Manoj Fadnish shared their experiences and knowledge with The Chartered Accountants, tax Professionals of Bhopal.
Speaking on the occasion, Girish Ahuja spoke on TDS provisions under Income Tax Act, especially the provisions under section 40 (a) (ia) under which expenses are disallowed.
If TDS are not deducted and deposited within the prescribed time & limits. This provision has been amended from retrospective effect to allow deduction of such expenditure.
If TDS is deposited before the due date of furnshing of the Income Tax Return.
In his address, Sarin explained the provisions of VAT and Service Tax in relation to works contractors and builders and especially in light of the decision of Supreme Court in the case of 'Raheja Development Corporation' and the transformation and challenges that this decision has been brought.
Rajesh Jain (CA), chairman Bhopal branch of ICAI welcomed the guests and sketched details about the past activities of the branch in Bhopal. He said that Bhopal branch is going to provide coaching facilities to CPT, PCC and final exam of CA, where quality education will be provided by the branch itself.
Saurabh Shrivastav conducted the seminar and gave detail of requirement of obtaining permission by a student of CA to pursue other course.
The permission is necessary for those students also who have not obtained IT earlier.
The others who were present in the seminar includes- Deepak Bahne, Krishnan S, Salil Jain, all members of managing committee, Susheel Loya, president Tax Law Bar Association, Rajendra Manwa, tax advocates, S S Agrawal, CAs advance tax practioners, businessmen and others.
Teachers' orientation from May 17 to 25

The state level orientation programme for teachers would be organised from May 17 to 25 at Sehore. All the students of government schools are to be imparted training for physical fitness as well as martial arts like judo and taekwondo (Korean karate) to enable them to defend themselves. In this context, this orientation programme is being organised for orientation of training master resource person teachers, Shikshakarmis as well as contractual teachers so that they can property train school children in physical fitness and martial arts.
The ten-day training programme would be organised at Government Residential Sports Institute, Sehore. Instructions have been issued to all the education officers in this connection. At the same time instructions have been issued to all the joint directors of Directorate of Public Instructions to ensure participation of at least four teachers from every district to the orientation camp.
As per programme two male and as many female trained master resource persons (teachers/ Shikshakarmis/contractual teachers) below the age of 40 years from every district would be included in the training session. Like last year, this year also international and national level trainers from various states of the country have been invited to impart training apart from Vishwamitra and Vikarm awardees and international players of the state.
District Education Officers have been asked to ensure that all the four trainees from their respective districts must necessarily reach the programme venue at Sehore by 5 pm on May 16, 2008. They have also been asked to instruct the trainees to bring with them judo/karate kits provided to them last year.
Similarly, they have been asked to make contact with Assistant Commissioners, District Coordinators of Tribal Welfare Department and urge them to ensure presence of master resource persons trained by the department last year at the orientation programme at Sehore. Trainees would be lodged at Government Residential Sports Institute, Sehore free of cost.
