A smart move |
| Speaker Somnath Chatterjee raised the hackles of the opposition MPs when he threatened to refer the case of the 32 recalcitrant MPs for punitive action to the Parliament's Privileges' Committee. At one time he did look like a big Daddy wielding a fearsome stick to discipline his brood but as soon as he realized that there were signs of regret he acted smartly by withdrawing the proposed reference to the privileges committee. Thanks to the maturity shown by all concerned the entire episode has had a happy ending.
Let us hope that there will be no repeat of the incident in future and all concerned will cooperate in maintaining the dignity of the august House they have the honour to belong to.
