New Delhi, May 8:
Some lusty hitting by new bowling sensation Manpreet Gony (13 n.o) helped Chennai Super Kings clinch a thriller from the jaws of defeat. Captain MS Dhoni(33) and Albie Morkel(30) gave them a good platform in the middle after S Vidyut(40) laid a good opening platform along with Stephen Fleming(44).
Captain MS Dhoni (15 n.o) along with dangerous Albie Morkel (29 n.o) leading Chennai Super Kings close to victory against Delhi Daredevils who have posted a competitive 187 while batting first. Super Kings were 138/3 after 14 overs. Morkel was severe on the bowlers hitting fours and sixes at ease.
Riding on excellent half-centuries by Gambhir (80) and Shikhar Dhawan, Delhi daredevils post a mammoth total of 187/5. Both Gambhir and Dhawan carted every bowler all round the park.
Gautam Gambhir’s excellent knock of 80 came to an end as he got out trying to hit an inside out shot off comeback pacer L Balaji only to be caught at cover. Gambhir’s blistering knock off 48 balls studded with 11 fours and one huge six. Shaoib Malik came onto the crease to join Shikhar Dhawan who has completed his century and looking in ominous touch.
Gautam Gambhir completed yet another fifty to power Delhi Daredevils to 133/2 after 15 overs. Like previous matches, Gambhir (67 n.o) carted all the bowlers all round the park, hitting them with equal disdain. Shikhar Dhawan is also playing well for his unbeaten 31.
Albie Morkel joined the party when he uprooted the leg stump of South African team mate AB de Villiers off a perfect Yorker which deceived the Proteas batsman completely. He seemed to lose the track of the ball and the stump went flying to the keeper. However, a few lusty blows took the Daredevils to the 50 run mark at the end of the powerplays.
Manpreet Gony halted the voluptuous start that the Delhi Daredevils got courtesy Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. The duo partnered for 44 runs in just under 5 overs. The dream start, however, was shattered when a perfect yorker that shook Viru’s stumps.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the Chennai Super Kings, won the toss and chose to bowl first which means the spectators will hopefully get to see some brutal assault by Virender Sehwag & co.
Delhi Daredevils made one change in the team. Manoj Tiwary came in for Rajat Bhatia. Mithun Manhas was also included in the team. Chennai roped in Arun Karthik and Lakshmipathy Balaji.
The Kings have lost three matches in a row whereas the Daredevils have 4 wins and 2 losses in their kitty. Both the teams have lost their last match and will be looking forward to winning ways.
