J&K sex scandal: Action tagainst Jammu MP likely

Agencies

Srinagar, May 6: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said allegations by Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma that the Assembly Speaker and former PCC chief were involved in a sex scandal but saved by top party leaders were false and that action would be taken against him.

"Making false accusations is unacceptable; it is against the justice system and amounts to questioning the integrity of judges. Action will definitely be taken against the MP for making a false statement," Azad told a private TV news channel here.

The scandal about alleged involvement of several police officers, bureaucrats and politicians in a sex racket in the city rocked the state early last year and the case is sub judice as its is before a Sessions Court in Chandigarh.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court is monitoring the CBI probe into the case.

Sharma, the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Jammu, had alleged at a rally in Akhnoor on Sunday that Speaker Tara Chand and former Pradesh Congress Committee president Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed were named in the sex scandal, but were saved on the intervention of top party leaders.

But a day later he backtracked saying he had made no such statements.
