Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed displeasure over the attitude and functioning of banks leading to inordinate delay in disposal of claim cases under Vivekanand Group Insurance Scheme (VGIS). Chouhan was reviewing progress of the scheme here at Mantralaya today. Minister for Women and Child Development Ms Kusum Mehdale also attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister said that the delay in disposal of claim cases is defeating the very purpose of the scheme. He directed for a detailed review of 1634 cases rejected last year. He also directed for implementation of the scheme through some other agency instead of banks.
The Chief Minister directed to chalk out an insurance scheme for people who are not income tax payee and are not covered under any insurance scheme. Insurance cover should be provided to such people for future security of their families. The people living below poverty line and non-income tax payees should be covered under it, he added.
The meeting was informed that payment of over Rs two crore was made in 534 cases last year under Vivekanad Group Insurance Scheme. The benefit is to be given in 542 cases.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary RN Bairva; Principal Secretary, Finance Ashok Das; Secretaries to the Chief Minister Anurag Jain and SK Mishra and Additional Secretary, Social Justice Jabbar Dhakwala.
