Kuala Lumpur, May 5: Consumer durables maker LG Electronics has introduced a new range of washing machine and television models for the Indian market to capture over 30 per cent share in these product categories by end of this year.

With the introduction of new models, the company is aiming to increase its total turnover by Rs 1,500 crore by the end of 2008. "Our turnover for 2007 was at Rs 9,500 crore, which we aim raising to Rs 11,000 crore by end of 2008," LG Electronics India Ltd Director Sales and Marketing V Ramchandran told reporters here.

The South Korean company has introduced two washing machine models, Steam Tromm (front loader) and new top loading machine, for the Indian market.

Steam Tromm works on a technology that requires negligible maintenance, has low noise level and comes with child lock, Ramchandran said adding, this new range is priced at around Rs 70,000.

"Of the total market share of three lakh units in this category, we are planning to capture 32 per cent from the present 26 per cent," Amitabh Tiwari, LGEIL Business Group Head for Consumer Electronics and Kitchen Appliances, said.

The top loader with features like air dry and tub clean would be available in the price range of Rs 16,000-32,000, Tiwari said. "From the total market share of six lakh units, we are aiming at 35 per cent market share in this category from the current 27 per cent," he added.

These new models would be manufactured in the company's Greater Noida unit near New Delhi, he said.
