Personal Thought: Two swift sporting
actions |
| When I saw a sobbing Kerala Cricket sensation S. Shreeshant bitten by a Bhajji slap on his face â€" reported to be the reaction of IPL failure of Mumbai, headed by Bhajji against the Mohali Mughals under Yuvraj in which Shreeshant was a part. To be fare, Shree should not have poked his nose (which is quite unusual) against the red-hot Sardarji. But the television cameras that caught the Bhajji bash made things impossible for Bhajji though Shreeshant desperately tried his level best to protect his elder Sporting brother. But kudos to the BCCI that it acted swiftly to make things fare and nipped the trouble from the bud by imposing ban in playing the left over IPL match by Bhajji apart from parting with the IPL money of around 3 crores. What a costly slap was that? This is the reason sensible people deject the IPL concept as this kind of money surely makes bad blood. Though the disciplinary committee of BCCI took a fairly good decision equally warned.
Shreeshant too to desist from provocative remarks and impulsive ground behavior. Will it stop there or the bad blood set in motion through the heavy penalty to Bhajji would snowball in to some other form is to be seen now.
The second swift action was taken by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) headed by Suresh Kalmadi by sacking the irrepressible KPS Gill, President Indian Hockey Federation as a fall out of the sting operation whereby the IHF Secretary was caught demanding bribe of two lakhs rupees for selection of a player in the Indian Hockey team. Though Gill tried his level best to defend himself as well as the IHF through his interview with the CNN-IBN chief Rajdeep Sardesai on Sunday night and posed a challenger to the Indian audience that at the moment he was the only one fit to hold the post of IHF President. Earlier, his own classmate and former CEC MS Gill, who is now the Minister of State for Sports. called KPS Gill to quit the post gracefully but the wily Sardar wanted to give a fight, known for his gene well, right from the infamous Rupenkar Deol Bajaj buttock slap case and prior to that his ruthless ways he brought down the Punjab terrorism for which the Congress government gave him full marks. But, he castigated all the Central governments (except Sushri Uma Bharati, the NDA Sports Minister)for non-cooperation in the form of non-provision of funds or suitable training facilities for the Hockey players that ultimately caused the Indian Hockey to fall from its glorious past. Now that KPS Gill is sacked. The onus is now with the IOA, particularly its chief- Suresh Kalmadi to bring this national game back to its pristine glory, even by inviting sponsors, as he promised to the Aaj Tak channel the other day.
