First day gives hit of sizzling May

Bhopal, May 1: With mercury recording a high of 41.4 degree Celsius temperature on Thursday, the first day of the month gave a clear indication that temperature in the coming days are certainly going to shot up further.

While the day temperature rising to 41.4 degree Celsius, the City in the night recorded 24.8 degree Celsius.

The Thursday afternoon remained much cooler then the last two days what the State capital had witnessed. While in the afternoon, heavy wind fall gripped the City of Lakes, in the evening clouds covered some part of the City limits, giving a sigh of relief to the people from the scorching heat.

According to the Metreological Department, Khajurao in the State recorded the maximum temperature at 46 degree Celsius followed with Sagar district where temperature rose five degree up from the normal temperature.

The Metrelogical Department has predicted intense summer days ahead with mercury touching maximum a high of 45 degree Celsius.

Anti-terror conf in MP capital

Bhopal, May 1: The Jamiat Ulema Madhya Pradesh will conduct a day-long anti-terrorism conference here on May 3 against ''accusations'' linking a minority community and Madrasas to militancy. ''Representatives of all religions and political parties have been invited for the event that is under the joint chairmanship of Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind President Hazrat Maulana Syed Arshad Madani,'' the event's convenor Sahabzada Abdurrashid Khan told reporters here today.

Governor Balram Jakhar, Congress state President Suresh Pachouri, former chief ministers Digvijay Singh, Sunderlal Patwa and Babulal Gaur were among the invitees.

''Innocent youths are being harassed in the name of the Students Islamic Movement of India,'' Mr Khan alleged.

Jamiat Ulema Madhya Pradesh Chairman Mufti Abdul Razzaq Khan condemned Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray's statements against those hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
