Accidents galore

The frequency with which the accidents have been taking place on the roads in Bhopal is scary. In the last couple of days two buses carrying passengers met with accidents on the Berasia Road and one carrying students of the Sagar Institute of Technology at the Ayodhya by pass resulting in injuries to over 45, some of whom suffered critical injuries and were rushed to the hospitals for treatment. 2 motorcycle riders and a police constable were killed in two separate accidents on the city roads.

Despite frequent claims by the administration, it has not been able to discipline the wayward drivers and pedestrians who drive the way thy like and in the manner they like throwing all caution and traffic rules to the winds. Watch the moving traffic from any point; the policemen on duty are least bothered about controlling traffic. I have pointed out time and again that the police manpower is wholly inadequate as compared to the requirements of the situation and unless it is beefed up and some political will is demonstrated to rein in the lawbreakers, the problem will further aggravate.
