MP submitted fake papers to EC

Agencies

New Delhi, Apr 28: Mani Kumar Subba, the Congress MP from Tezpur, submitted a fake birth certificate to the Election Commission, the CBI told the Supreme Court on Monday.

The CBI in its report to the apex court said that birth related information and other details furnished by the MP to the Election Commission are not genuine and appear to be forged.

The apex court has now issued a notice to Subba, giving him giving six-weeks to clarify his stand on the issue.

An investigation by a private news channel had exposed how Subba, a lottery baron from Assam, had concealed his place of birth and his alleged Nepalese identity. The channel also revealed that he was a Nepalese murder convict.
