Seven lakh tonne wheat has been procured from farmers on support price in the state so far. Last week Madhya Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation and Markfed procured 1.18 lakh tonnes and 11000 tonnes of wheat, respectively. During the last fortnight, Food Corporation of India purchased 80 thousand metric tonnes of wheat from farmers. This information was given at a meeting held here to review wheat procurement. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The Chief Minister issued instructions to officers to keep a constant watch over basic amenities for farmers at Mandis. He said the officers showing laxity in wheat procurement would not be spared.
The review meeting was informed that so far Civil Supplies Corporation has procured 4,54,106 tonnes, Markfed 34,975 tonnes, FCI 1,26,057 tonnes and NAFED has procured 23,250 tonnes of wheat. Wheat procurement had started since March 1. This year, record procurement is being made. The benefit of large-scale wheat procurement would also percolate to BPL ration card holders under Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana.
Those present at the meeting included Commissioner and Secretary Food KP Singh, Bhopal division Commissioner Pukhraj Maroo, secretaries to the Chief Minister and concerning officers of Civil Supplies Corporation and other agencies.
