`Yoga keeps people mentally and physically fit'

Bhopal, Apr 25: The Yoga Research Centre of Kasturba Hospital, BHEL on Friday, as a part of its general public awareness programme, organised `Yoga Bhagae Rog' programme at BHEL Cultural hall. The programme was started by lighting the lamp and Saraswati Vandana presented by the students of Jawaharlal Nehru School.

Executive Director of BHEL RK Singh was the chief guest and MC Prasad, GM (HR) was the guest of honour of the programme, while Swamini Nirmalanand Sarswati from Yoga Research Foundation Munger was the guest speaker.

Singh in his address said that to achieve any goal in life one has to be mentally and physically fit and this can be easily achieved by practising yoga. He wished that the general public would take full advantage of the yoga centre. Many more doctors would be involved in other projects of yoga, he added. He thanked Bihar School of Yoga for its continuous support and guidance in establishing the Yoga Research Centre at Kasturba Hospital.

Singh also released a brochure on Yoga Research Centre having important activities and schedule, including some of the major and important Asanas.

Prasad expressed happiness on the on going work done by the yoga team and the Centre. He urged people to make yoga a part of their life as it not only helps to have sound health, but to have sound mind also.

Swamini Nirmalanand Sarswati delivered lecture on the importance of Yoga in our lives. She will also interact with the patients and doctors undergoing the new Yoga research project for the year 2008 and present the results of projects undertaken in year 2007.

Earlier, Dr NC Agarwal welcomed the guests and highlighted the activities undertaken by the Yoga Research Centre.

Dr Sarla Menon presented a detailed report on Yoga Research Centre since inception. The effect of yogic exercise on Asthma and COPD was explained in detail by Dr Alpana Tiwari, in charge of Chest Deptt of Kasturba hospital. In her presentation she showed that yoga group patient had significantly improved as compared to control group both in symptoms and in investigation and similar results have been obtained in other two project ie diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure.

This was followed by demonstration of the various yogic practise done by the patients undergoing the research project by Amrit Bindu lecturer at Yoga Research Centre Munger. The most interesting part of the programme was the feed back session given by the patients who had under gone the study group.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Pratima Prasad and the programme was compeered by AK Yadav. The whole programme was organised by the Group of Business Excellence, Human Research Department and medical fraternity of Kasturba Hospital.
